Future Developments

The last post is only brief, but just explains the future developments of animation on a global level.
One development that did catch my attention was the idea of animating life like models of humans. With this came an interesting idea of how animation has affected the robotic side, 'animating' real life objects to seem like humans.
This brought up a big question on how technology is vast taking over all aspects of every day life, with real life robots being built to resemble human beings. With this brings an issue of moral question and a hypothesis called 'Uncanny Valley' which explores the reactions to humans against these robotics. I found it interesting that from the ideas of animating 3D characters in life like form, it has spurred yet another technology to advance it's developments into creating real life robots; just like the video shows below.

Robots

I also found this website really insightful into the industry of computer animation, and what the expectations for animation are for the future.

With new developments in the surrounding industries, there's no doubt there will be new advances in animation. The pictures below show the new developments in gaming consoles and robots, which all illustrate the use of animation technology within their unique ideas. It's amazing to see how animation has leaped from drawings into new age technology, with no apparent reason not to continue.

I hope you have enjoyed the blog, and hope it supported my essay in New Technology and Animation.

Culture

One part of the animation industry that was really interesting, was how cultures have taken over with their own interpretations to suit their country and consumers. Anime is a huge market in Japan after animators and creators sourced new ideas from the West 20 years ago.

I looked into the history of Anime and the culture revolution because of this new look on animation. I used the following websites to research and found some really interesting facts about Japan's Anime.
http://www.japan-zone.com/modern/anime.shtml

Steamboy was a successful Anime film created by  Katsuhiro Ohtomo in 2004. This is an example of how Japan took on animation to suit their own cultural background of drawings and designs in film.

The anime pictures above show the unique drawing style of Japanese artists, and why it's become such a popular style of animation in film and television series.

Internet

Another platform for animation technology is the use of the Internet. It has opened up so many new options for animators, developers and creators and has also branched out to web designers and videos that have explored computer animation for internet purposes.

Search engines such as google and yahoo have explored these animation techniques, with their homepages using animated toolbars, graphics and applications such as weather and news. As you can see from the picture below, it shows the weather pop up that animated on screen without any need to click it or start the movements.

Another aspect of the internet is the use of websites specifically made for animators and tutorials for animation on websites like YouTube. An example of this, is the video link underneath, which has been made as a tutorial to learn how to animate using software Macromedia Flash Player, an easily accessible programme.

The internet is an ever developing source for information, new technology and ideas that the animation industry has became a part of.

Mobile

The mobile industry has expanded over the last 40 years and it has continuously developed it's technology to please it's consumers.
The first animated pixal game on a mobile was snake.

The developments continued to evolve after the introduction of colour screen technology. This link shows the development of mobiles over the last 40 years and how the industry constantly adapted and supplied new technology into their phones.

When researching I found that the first colour screen phone was in fact made by company Sony Ericsson and was the T68i.
After this the mobile industry flourished and into the 21st century, big brand Apple designed and created the iPhone. With this brought their infamous idea of 'applications', which gave another outlet to designers and animators.

As explained briefly in Gaming, augmented reality games are a new technological advance that has stormed the smaller hand held consoles. With this, it has even reached new heights within mobile phones, and the video link below shows just how developed the gaming and mobile industry has become with the use of 3D animated technology.

Augmented Reality Game

With these new technologies in mind, it's no wonder that animation has found itself a new platform in gaming and  mobile technology.

Gaming

Gaming, consoles and computers have really taken over the global markets and are household items around the world. With this vast industry constantly advancing, it's no wonder that animation has become a part of this industry. Animation is a part of games and follows a similar production process to that of films, with the added process of the controller constantly changing and moving the animation. This is done through computer animation technology, which has become a normality within the industries creativity.

The youtube video shows a trailer from the E3 gaming conference 2011. The game it is showing is Halo, a popular science fiction game and the developments of the characters are mindblowing.

The second video shows a the development of a game using DarkBasic Pro, which is a professional piece of industry software.

Animation History

As part of my introduction, I did a little research into the background on animation and how it has developed from it's beginning stages.
The pictures below show a few stages of animation including; the flipbook, 1831 phenakistoscope, snow white cell animation cells, drawings and even the Lusitania by Windsor McCay. These pictures just show a few examples of how animation has developed since the early stages and how it contniued to grow.

Introduction

This blog is a visual representation to the essay I have written on New Technology and Animation. In this blog, I will follow each individual point with pictures, research links and videos that will help support my essay and hopefully give a better insight into the research I have done and the points I have explored.

I hope you enjoy the essay and blog.
